Earthquake Radar privacy
Last updated 13 September 2026. Operator: Anthony Taves (vibealive.us).
Earthquake Radar is an iPhone app that fingerprints a recording on this device, ranks Closest windows in the JVIZ Earthquake Weather archive, and can show USGS M4+ events for a mix’s UTC airdate on a day globe. Support: vibealive.us/support.html.
What Earthquake Radar collects
Earthquake Radar does not create an account. It does not run ads, analytics SDKs, or tracking. It does not sell personal data.
A file you import stays on this iPhone for the study. Video is discarded. The first 30 seconds of audio are turned into a fingerprint on the device. That fingerprint is compared to a bundled archive index. The recording is not uploaded.
The app may write small values to UserDefaults and read file timestamps on this device so a study can resume. Those values do not leave the phone.
Network
Fingerprint study works offline once a file is on the phone. Network is used to play archive clips from jviz.net over HTTPS (desk or 8:17 globe cut) and to fetch USGS day event GeoJSON for the globe when that day is not already cached. Those requests do not include your recording.
Permissions
- Photo Library — optional. You pick a screen recording or audio file. Deny it and you can still import from Files or study a bundled vault sample.
- Files — optional. You pick a movie or audio file to study.
Third parties
- jviz.net — archive clip playback
- U.S. Geological Survey — FDSN Event day queries for the globe (cached on device)
- Apple (App Store, Photos, Files)
Earthquake Radar is not an official Apple or xAI product. Independent of JVIZ and USGS.
